Job Description
As the Head of Finance, you will possess a growth-oriented mindset alongside strong technical and financial control expertise. You will be responsible for creating forecasting models, planning, analysing, budgeting, assessing risk in investments and ensuring all accounting activities comply with regulations. As we build the Finance function at Biza you will be capable and effective at managing the day-to-day financial operations of Biza while building trust and adapting seamlessly to accounting and business changes. To be successful in this role, you will have experience crafting financial strategies and managing accounting teams.
The Head of Finance will identify and implement systems, polices and processes for the Finance function which will improve financial monitoring, accountability and growth across Biza.
Responsibilities:

Financial Control and Reporting
Ensure accurate financial reporting in line with GAAP/IFRS/SDS.
Manage and coordinate all financial reporting, including budgeting, forecasting, and statutory reports.
Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Maintain strong financial controls to protect company assets.
Provide financial insights to support executive decision-making.
Assist with month-end and year-end processes.
Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting.

Tax Oversight and Advice
Prepare and manage company tax returns, R&D claims, ITR, ESS, and BAS statements.
Oversee the organisation’s taxation affairs, ensuring compliance with Australian regulations.
Liaise with external tax firms for specialist advice, lodgement services and manage the relationship with external auditors.
Provide expert tax guidance to the team and ensure timely monthly and annual tax compliance.

Operational Finance Management
Manage cash flow, working capital, and finance functions to ensure financial stability.
Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and tax compliance functions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to relevant regulations.
Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
Manage and track budget, accounting information, billing, collections, and tax compliance.
Ensure all accounting and financial activities comply with relevant regulations and standards.
Perform daily bank and company credit card reconciliations.
Handle data entry, bookkeeping, and maintain the financial filing system.
Manage due diligence and analysis for potential transactions.
Maintain customer and supplier profiles, and ensure timely invoicing and employee reimbursement.

Risk Management and Compliance
Develop and implement a solid risk management framework in collaboration with information security personnel to identify, mitigate, and minimise financial risks.
Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and standards.
Oversee and manage the company’s cash flow, ensuring appropriate financial controls are in place.
Liaise with external auditors and manage the annual audit process.
Develop strategies to minimise financial risks and maintain liquidity in the Australian market.

Financial Strategy and Planning
Develop and implement financial strategies that align with the company’s business objectives and growth plans.
Lead the annual budgeting process and long-term financial planning.
Provide strategic financial guidance and recommendations to the executive team considering market changes and investment opportunities.
Manage and oversee the company's banking and borrowing arrangements.
Advise on best practices to increase revenue and reduce costs.
Collaborate closely with managers to improve information flow, enhancing cross-functional coordination and decision-making.
Offer sound financial insights to support critical business decisions by the executive leadership team (ELT).

Leadership and Team Development:
Recruitment, training, mentoring and development of staff
Build, lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
Collaborate with other departments to support company initiatives and optimise financial performance.
Communicate financial insights and recommendations to stakeholders at all levels.

All financial reports, including budgets and forecasts, are consistently accurate, on time
Implementation of strong financial controls results in zero incidents of fraud or significant financial discrepancies.
Financial insights and recommendations are effectively communicated to stakeholders at all levels, enhancing decision-making and stakeholder confidence.
Strategic tax planning results in optimised tax liabilities and successful R&D claims, maximising financial benefits for the company whilst meeting tax obligations on time.
The company maintains a stable cash flow with effective management of working capital, accounts receivable, and payable functions.
All operational finance functions, including payroll, billing, and collections, are accurate, compliant, and contribute to smooth business operations.
Regular financial analysis identifies opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies, leading to measurable improvements.
A comprehensive risk management framework effectively identifies and mitigates financial risks, resulting in minimal disruptions to business operations.
Annual audits are completed with no significant findings, reflecting strong internal controls and financial management.
The financial strategies developed align with and support the company’s growth objectives, contributing to sustained financial health and competitive advantage.
The finance team is well-trained, motivated, and demonstrates continuous improvement, contributing to the overall success of the company.
Qualifications
Essential
· 5+ years' experience in a senior financial managerial position with a proven record of success
· Sound decision-making skills based on accurate and timely analyses
· Results-oriented and metrics-driven
· Exceptional time management and ability to solve problems
· Exceptional interpersonal communication and leadership skills, with the ability to communicate and manage staff at all levels
· Excellent understanding of corporate transaction processes
· Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
· Experience with creating financial statements
· Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
· Excellent accounting software user and administration skills
· Demonstrated hands-on experience in dealing with daily accounting transactions in cloud based accounting packages (Xero)
· Ability to lead by example and demonstrate a strong sense of integrity, ethics and dependability
· Professional written and oral communication skills
· Confident in presenting results to an audience
· Strategic thinking, planning and creative problem-solving skills
· Ability to work under pressure
· Ability to collaborate with upper management to organise, plan and achieve company financial goals
· Advanced computer software skills, including Excel and financial reporting software
· Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA preferred)
· Professional accounting qualifications such as CA or CPA
· Experience in a Professional Services or IT SaaS environment preferred
· XERO Accounting software experience essential
· Strong skills in MS office suite
· Ability to pick up new systems quickly
· Possess a high attention to detail and accuracy
Desirable
· Managing relationships with Investors
· Recruitment, training, mentoring and development of staff
· CPA or CMA preferred
· Functional understanding of current banking software systems
· Managing external banking relationships
· Ability to motivate and lead teams
· Flexibility to work within a rapidly changing environment.
· Experience with ESOP
