The opportunity
As the Product Design Team Lead to help shape how Atomi looks, feels and works for our users. This is a hybrid role. You’ll lead a small team of product designers while also working hands-on in one of our product squads.
In this role you can expect to define the design direction, create excellent user experiences, and work closely with product, engineering and other teams to bring great ideas to life. You’ll also play a big part in building a positive, inclusive team culture that values quality, learning and collaboration. This is a hands-on role, with roughly a 65/35% split between hands-on and people management.

What You'll Do

  • Set the product design strategy and make sure it aligns with our goals and what users actually need
  • Work with product leads and stakeholders to shape projects and plan design work
  • Manage and support product designers -- giving feedback, coaching and helping them do their best work
  • Guide your own squad’s design work, creating clear, user-first designs like wireframes, prototypes and UI
  • Lead user research to inform design decisions and help guide the broader product strategy
  • Maintain and improve our design system to keep things consistent, scalable and on-brand
  • Drive high design standards through regular feedback, reviews and ways of working
  • Share knowledge and champion design across Atomi, working closely with other design leaders
  • Keep up with industry trends and bring fresh ideas to help us stay ahead

What You'll Bring to Atomi

  • Experience leading and mentoring design teams
  • A strong eye for turning insights into smart, simple user experiences
  • Skilled in workflows, interaction design, information architecture and navigation
  • Creative thinking paired with a strategic mindset
  • Confident working with data to guide decisions
  • Experience with accessible design and design systems
  • Strong communicator - able to explain your thinking and bring others along
  • Great at working through ambiguity and helping teams stay focused
  • Deep knowledge of good design practices and how to work well in product teams
  • Someone who cares about people, learning, and doing things the right way

How to apply
Ironically for an education company, we’re not huge sticklers for qualifications. We’re more interested in how your skills and experience can contribute to our team. Make sure to include links to any relevant projects, like your portfolio, writing, GitHub, etc. - whatever helps us understand what you're good at, what you're passionate about, and why you’d be a great fit at Atomi.
We also know great people come from all kinds of backgrounds, so even if you don't meet all the requirements we've listed, you should still apply.
Please note: You'll need Australian working rights for this role.
