Founding Tax Accountant
Accounting & Finance
About Visory
At Visory, we're rebuilding how SMBs run their financial back-office. Most small and medium businesses already have the data – what they lack is clarity. By combining an agent-first workflow platform, frontier AI, and the judgment of world-class finance experts, we turn financial operations into insight, strategy, and confident decision-making.
We're leading a new category of Service-as-a-Software businesses. Most software puts tools in customers' hands. We deliver the work itself. Agents sit at the core of every workflow; our experts focus on what only humans do best – judgment, relationships, and quality.
Our MindLedger product is the newest expression of that model. We build AI agents that take compliance work start to finish – tax planning, returns, working papers and financial statements – finished and ready for review. Agents handle execution, quality checks and data processing, so accountants can put their time where it matters most: relationships, judgement and oversight. The profession has talked about AI as something on the horizon; we're at the bleeding edge building it today – better-quality outcomes for customers and skyrocketing efficiencies at the same time.
Visory is VC-backed and scaling fast, with a global team across Australia, New Zealand, and the United States.
The bar is high, the mission ambitious, the work as rewarding as it is hard, and we're just getting started.
Role Overview
You'll be the first dedicated tax accountant on MindLedger, working directly with the founders and the Product and Engineering team. Your job is to turn deep Australian tax and compliance expertise into the rules, context and quality standards our AI agents run on.
It's part practitioner, part product builder. You'll deliver tax services to Visory's customer base while helping build our services software under the Visory brand – every return you prepare, review or correct makes the product permanently better.
It's also a job with no timesheet – only quality customer outcomes. As a founding hire, you'll shape our quality standards, professional processes and future accounting team from the ground up.
The Responsibilities
Agentic Product Development
• Build AI agents with the engineering team. You'll learn how to build on the bleeding edge of agentic products, working hands-on with the Product and Engineering team – you're in the build, not writing requirements from the sidelines.
• Review agentic self-improving edits. When a self-learning agent recognises a pattern to improve on, you're the human in the loop to verify whether it's technically correct and best practice.
• Audit what the agents produce. Pull a completed workpaper, tick it back to source, and make the call: is this review-ready, or would you send it back?
• Work out why it failed. A bad workpaper comes from one of a few places – the instruction was wrong, the source data was wrong, or the agent hit a judgement call it had no way of making. Each needs a different fix. Being able to tell them apart is the core skill of this job.
• Break things before customers do. Run new capabilities against the messy, unusual and half-documented client situations you've spent your career dealing with.
Tax Services & Quality Assurance
• Deliver tax services to Visory's customer base – preparing and reviewing tax returns, BAS, working papers and financial statements as the product is built and validated.
• Serve as our registered tax agent, taking professional responsibility for sign-off and lodgement of client work.
• Own the final quality-assurance and sign-off framework for agent-produced work – you decide what leaves the building.
• Make sure everything meets Australian professional and regulatory standards – ATO requirements, professional obligations and applicable accounting standards.
Domain Leadership
• Be the authority on Australian tax and compliance across the company.
• Keep us current – track legislative, ATO and accounting-standard changes and update agent rules and product behaviour to match.
• Help us learn how different accounting firms actually work – ledgers, workpapers, review processes, lodgement cycles – so the product fits how real practices run.
• Be the credible practitioner voice in the room when we talk to accounting firm customers.
Skills & Experience
Qualifications & Experience
• CA or CPA qualified (essential).
• Registered tax agent with the Tax Practitioners Board, or clearly eligible for registration (essential).
• 5+ years in Australian public practice across business services and tax.
• You've prepared and reviewed the lot – individual, company, trust and partnership returns, BAS/IAS, working papers and financial statements.
• You've reviewed other people's work and held the line on quality.
Technical Knowledge
• Strong command of Australian tax law – income tax, GST, FBT, Division 7A, CGT concessions, trust distributions.
• Fluent in Xero, MYOB and/or QBO, and at home in the ATO portals.
• Solid grounding in special purpose and general purpose financial reporting for SMEs.
Product & AI Aptitude
• Curious about AI and keen to use it to change how compliance work gets done – no prior AI product experience required.
• You can unpack your own judgement into explicit, teachable rules and standards.
• Comfortable with the ambiguity, iteration and fast feedback loops of an early-stage product team.

Our Values
• Flock to problems: We run toward issues, not away from them. When something's broken, we get curious, gather the right people, and work the problem together.
• Give energy: We aim to be the people others want in the room – prepared, constructive, and generous with our knowledge and time.
• Think customer first: We care about customer outcomes, not just our internal process.
• Step into the arena: We value people who take ownership, show agency, make calls with imperfect information, and are willing to be accountable.
